I've been dipping my toes into growing consumer apps on TikTok A few observations (prob obvious, but maybe useful): ~ It's easier to work backwards from viral hooks and back into the product than the other way around. Most people (including myself) start from the product and then go hunting for the story. Start by honing in on the right framing. It's vastly cheaper to iterate there. ~ Virality can be manufactured. Resourceful founders have found very clever ways to get around very high CPMs typically spent through ads through traditional means. Like all great things, it's a game won through sheer iteration. ~ Astroturfing is the default state on the internet. The organic surface area of the internet is mayyybe like ~10% percent. So many people are paid off. ~ What separates novice from a veteran founder is calibration. A refined instinct for which work matters and which work is performative. It's still early, by my sense is that I severely underrated the importance of spending time here in the past, and wish i dug in a lot sooner.
