crypto airdrops have gone extreme with performance marketing and attention renting. it's created a perverse culture.
tokens/projects need to hard pivot from promoting a transactional community that boosts vanity metrics to one that values usage, ownership or loyalty.
1st gen airdrops (2021) - micro-tasks, quests, earn campaigns
2nd gen airdrops (2024) - attention farming, yap and slop
meta needs to change. start rewarding skin in the game, loyalty, consistency, core metrics or app/protocol.
winning teams aren't hiding behind status quo or vanity metrics. they're beginning to turn things around.
