Lighter is a decentralized trading app (DEX) built on Ethereum that focuses on perpetual contracts — derivatives without expiry dates. It uses zk-rollup technology to deliver fast, low-cost, and verifiable trading while keeping user funds secure on-chain. This setup allows Lighter to offer near-instant execution, minimal fees, and full transparency, since all trades and liquidations are cryptographically proven and publicly auditable.
Currently in early stages, Lighter aims to combine the speed of centralized exchanges with DeFi’s trustlessness. However, as a new protocol, it still faces challenges such as potential smart-contract risks, limited liquidity, and regulatory uncertainty. Traders testing it should start small and prioritize wallet security while the platform continues to mature.
