TIL cream cheese was invented in NYC in 1872 Before that, Europeans were making cheesecake with Ricotta, Curd, or cottage cheese Graham cracker crust was also invented in the US in the late 19th century Europeans were really just eating Neufchâtel with no crust lol

I never really understood why people always said “New York style” cheesecake, now I know why. Ricotta pie is fine, but is a separate thing and nothing else is really “cheesecake” except for “New York style cheesecake”
