Oh yeah. I was just a nerdy kid in a terminally online computer enthusiast forum and some folks were talking about it, mostly in regards to mining. The only website I could find was hosted by MIT, and I dug in a bit, read up on it. When I read that there was a 21m limit, and the creator of this coin had a full 1m to himself, I naturally chalked it up as a scam and moved on.
A bit later, tried to use the 5 BTC faucet. Setting up a wallet was confusing and I didn’t have an antivirus installed, so I again noped out.
In 2014 I tested mining on my fancy SLI video card setup, but calculated that I could only mine about 1 BTC per month, and didn’t want the electric bill. Also ASICS had just come out and I knew I wouldn’t win the hash rate war with GPUs.
Found Ethereum in 2016, mined it in 2017, and didn’t really give a shit about it until DeFi summer in 2020 when it all really clicked, and I dove in head first and haven’t looked back.
ETH has not appreciated in value since that time. 0 reply
