Years ago, Cabin DAO surfaced a tension with Network States: many of the most talented folks are drawn to networks in elite coastal cities and it’s hard to get them to move. Especially once they have families.
I see two ways to solve this.
1. Find underrated talent who can’t make it to the coastal elite cities and incubate them. This is what NS seems to try to do. It’s very hard to build a state, network, and educational institution at the same time.
2. Expand what a network state can be. This is what I wish Farcaster NS would do. Similar to the health protocols movement, I wish any internet community with a strong set of values would choose Farcaster as a protocol to build their own internet protocol, community, and eventually network states on top of. I think having a permanent physical home is less important than establishing a strong internet community to start.
