I’ve been practicing cold showers for quite a long time now — about two years. The Wim Hof method really helped me a lot on this cold journey. I can’t say I love every single second of it from start to finish. Sometimes I still mentally procrastinate that exact moment when I have to switch to the cold water 😬 But once the cold drops hit my body, there’s no stopping — it’s like jumping out of a plane with a parachute: the next meeting is already on the ground, no matter what 😅 The best part is the afterglow: that light tingling sensation, the gradual endogenous rewarming, and the crystal-clear mind. A small injection of stress gives you an energy boost that lasts the whole day. Every year in our city they set up ice baptism pools on Epiphany (January 19th). Lifeguards and medics are on duty, they put up warm tents where you can change. Last year I really wanted to try it, but I was a bit sick at the time. So I decided to save it for the next year. And the weather didn’t disappoint — the day before it was -42°C 🥶 But luckily on the actual day of the plunge it “warmed up” to -26°C 🤗 I did a bit of reading about these events and got some solid practical advice — bring flip-flops and a towel. Even ChatGPT tried to talk me out of it 😄 The main thing is to dry off and get changed super fast so you don’t frostbite anything. If there were no heated tents and warming spots, I probably wouldn’t have risked it.
