Totally get where you're coming from—if this is the tariff baseline, it's hard to see how it won't backfire. Higher costs, limited reshoring incentives, and strained trade relationships don't exactly scream "pro-growth." But I wonder if this is more of an opening play—leverage for negotiation or targeted protectionism rather than a full-on strategy. Still, without clear support for domestic manufacturing alongside it, yeah… the American worker could end up paying the price again. It’s a dangerous line to walk.
