“True freedom comes from letting go.” It was the evening before he entered into meditation. He knew that this meditation session would determine whether he could fully awaken. His body was extremely weak and he had not eaten for several days. I advised him: "If you die, who knows whether there will still be 'Tao' in this world?" He looked at me, but there was no fear in his eyes. He said: "I have seen thousands of kinds of suffering: death, illness, loneliness, ignorance...but the greatest suffering is the unwillingness to let go." I said, "Does letting go mean 'doing nothing'?" He shook his head. "Letting go is not lying down, nor is it escaping. Letting go is not being obsessed with the results, not being controlled by fear, and not being bound by emotions." “You do what you are supposed to do, sow the seeds, and don’t ask about the results—that is freedom.”
