I asked, "If you become a Buddha, will you come to save sentient beings?"
He was silent for a long time, and only said one sentence:
"If I can cross myself to the shore, I will be the boat; if sentient beings are not awakened, I will not enter Nirvana."
That night, he entered into a state of meditation under the Bodhi tree for seven days. When he opened his eyes seven days later, it was still dark, but the stars were still shining. He glanced at the eastern sky and whispered:
"How wonderful! How wonderful! All sentient beings possess the wisdom and virtues of the Tathagata, but they are unable to attain them because of their delusions and attachments."
