The fact that medical health workers are trained to become astute professionals in less than 5 years is both baffling and enticing.
I’m an intern on call. A patient crashes into the ER — screaming in pain, bleeding everywhere. Family members wailing for help. Nurses running helter-skelter for materials. The accountant printing a bill for ER charges. The pharmacist lining up fluids and drugs.
And in the middle of that chaos, I’m expected to assess the entire scene and make the one call that addresses everything at once.
Isn’t that fascinating?
