These days, it’s painfully easy to expedite things in my country. A few bills and a plate of rice is all it takes to make an average person forget their own worth and dignity. Normally, a sensible conversation and the right incentive could get a job done faster, no drama, no “icks” — smooth as pouring water into a drum. But now the government has turned even basic necessities into things we have to beg for. And with that desperation, they expedite the exploitation of innocent citizens, pushing them into dirty work just so officials can climb to electoral seats faster and easier. Then the few people meant to stop it get pushed out, replaced by people with even dirtier hands. Those new ones expedite more corruption, pulling more innocent people down with them. And just like that, it becomes a vicious, monstrous cycle we can’t seem to escape. Who will put a stop to this calamity in my hometown, I plead? 😔
