If I start going on like in that Yemi Alade & Dr. Sid song about the rubbish we deal with in this country, we’d never finish. We’d probably exhaust this whole app before we even hit halfway.
I was on a call with my brother today and I just got angry all over again. The government has normalized the paucity of basic things so much that politicians now use “I’ll give you light and security” as a campaign promise. And we actually debate it like it’s a big policy win.
Think about it — why should “we’ll give you security and steady power” even be a selling point? I’ve never heard candidates in other countries campaign on that. They brag about upgrading, renovating, making what already works even better.
But here, we’re conditioned to celebrate the smallest upgrade on top of a massive paucity, like it’s enough to earn our vote. It’s frustrating. I’m just waiting for the change we keep talking about. E go better.
