When I first became a senator for my medical association in medical school, I still remember my first congress. I was so overwhelmed that I genuinely considered to abdicate the position.
Dealing with people is exhausting. They’ll push you to your limits, testing how much patience and calm you can hold under pressure and, honestly, under stupidity. I was furious when someone submitted a budget as an "annual report." I called it out and suddenly I was the bad guy. lol
I was this close to walking away. If not for my friends talking me down, I would have abdicated the throne to someone who didn’t deserve it out of frustration.
Lesson learned: leadership isn’t about quitting when it gets messy.
