based on cited market movements in OP i think it’s fair to say that Americans don’t want the jobs at comps “that the market is willing to bear”. unemployment in construction has already been low at 3.9% by last two decades’ standards. despite having immigrants ease our labor shortage the issue remains widespread. if there is a wage exploitation issue it is clear that these are not jobs Americans are fighting over.
i don’t think America is ready to have the conversation you are alluding to until we can actually fill the job openings that have already been and remain up our ears despite alleviation from existing immigrant workers
