December 25 ⭐ Christmas Oratorio, BWV 248: I. “Jauchzet, frohlocket!” — Johann Sebastian Bach (1685–1750) If there’s ever a day to listen to something grand, joyful, and utterly triumphant, this is it. And no one does that quite like Bach. Bach’s Christmas Oratorio is actually a collection of six cantatas, originally performed over several days. But the opening chorus — “Jauchzet, frohlocket!” (“Rejoice, exult!”) — is pure celebration. You get everything here: drums, trumpets, strings, choir, flutes, oboes, and more. It’s the kind of musical explosion that lifts the ceiling off a room. This masterpiece premiered in Leipzig in 1734, during a church service at St. Nicholas. Centuries later, in 2004, it was performed again in Bethlehem. That Bethlehem. The choir was made up of young Israeli and Palestinian singers, Christian and Muslim musicians playing side by side. Bach has that kind of power — to unite, elevate, and remind us of something bigger. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fF4Ujem9ntc&list=PLalx8qOygDw7Z6iHo7D-Tkq8rOczx2dCj&index=24
