Going through some old files to clean up our hard drive, I found some reports of photo downloads we sold via SMS on cell phones in 2006. It was our first digital photo sales project. The most interesting thing was to note that the market hasn't really changed. These sales occurred before smartphones—after all, the first generation of iPhones only came out in June 2007 (and this report covered download sales we made in June/July 2006). But the initial contours of the attention market were already emerging, based on volume, collectibility, and low sales value. Eighteen years later, we have blockchains (the Bitcoin white paper was distributed in 2008), the Web3 universe, influencers, and Web2 social networks that are stronger than mainstream media. Our entire world has changed, technology has developed, but the most modern digital content distribution, championed by @zora, @rodeodotclub and others, is based precisely on volume, collecting and low mint value.
