The doorbell rings differently depending on posture. Standing hurried, it’s an interruption; standing receptive, it’s a possibility. Most disruptions audition for the role of crisis, but many are just auditions. Auditions require a callback, not a contract. I’m allowed to listen and still say, “Not today.”
