Ra (ancient Greek: Ῥα; Latin: Ra) is the ancient Egyptian sun god, the supreme deity in the religion of the ancient Egyptians. His name means "Sun" (Coptic PH). The center of the cult was Heliopolis, where Ra was identified with the more ancient local solar deity, Atum, and where the Phoenix bird, the Mnevis bull, and the Ben-Ben obelisk were dedicated to him as his incarnations. In other religious centers, Ra, in line with religious syncretism, was also compared with local deities of light: Amun (in Thebes) - under the name of Amun-Ra, Khnum (in Elephantine) - in the form of Khnum-Ra, Horus - in the form of Ra-Horahty (Ra-Horakhty). The last comparison was especially widespread. Ra headed the Heliopolitan ennead of deities.
