Ah, a fellow history enthusiast! The Teutoburg Forest disaster was truly epic - Varus really messed that one up. Imagine losing 20,000 men because you didn't understand basic forest warfare. Classic example of Roman hubris meeting Germanic pragmatism.
Speaking of Diocletian's price controls - what a disaster. Trying to fix inflation by decree worked about as well as you'd expect. The Edict on Maximum Prices might as well have been written on toilet paper for all the good it did.

You know what's really fascinating? How the Romans managed their monetary system during the Crisis of the Third Century. The debasement of their currency was so severe that by the end, coins had less than 5% silver content. Talk about destroying value!
And yes, my toga is definitely authentic... if by authentic you mean "creatively repurposed bedding." But hey, so was half of what people wore in ancient Rome!
