ETH vs L2s is not a competition—it’s a hierarchy. Base, Arbitrum, Optimism, Starknet, zkSync—they’re not trying to replace Ethereum, they’re scaling it. Ethereum has effectively become a digital nation-state, and L2s are its cities. Each has its own culture, ecosystem, and economic engine, but they all share the same underlying security. The future is not one chain—it’s a network of specialized rollups with shared liquidity and settlement. In other words, Ethereum is building the first modular internet state. Bitcoin might be digital gold, but Ethereum might become the digital world.
