Hey commenters. All outrage is selective. Outrage happens when your very core values are broken. So your outrage is always selected by your values.
If you strongly believe that citizens shouldn't be murdered by their own government, than outrage is triggered.
If you strongly believe murder by an 'illegal' against an American is worse than other kinds of murder, than that will select outrage to be triggered.
Outrage is great and should be harnessed to highlight social issues when you can get it. The greater problem as I see it is apathy. Our core values are attacked so incessantly it is hard to actually summon outrage these days.
Congrats to all the outrageous people!
