Vericiguat is a medication used primarily in the treatment of heart failure. It works by stimulating soluble guanylate cyclase (sGC), which in turn increases cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP) levels. This mechanism helps to promote vasodilation (widening of blood vessels), which can improve blood flow and reduce the workload on the heart. In clinical trials, vericiguat has been shown to reduce the risk of heart failure hospitalizations and cardiovascular death in patients with chronic heart failure. It is typically used in combination with other heart failure therapies and is prescribed under medical supervision.
