Tariffs are high gas costs. A net bad for everyone but those collecting them. Just like with automation and technology advances, there are some job losses and displacement but more, way more net job creation in the process. And as someone pointed out, cheaper prices for everyone
As Adam smith said, we are all consumers at the end of the sat. Some workers some producers but all consumers. So policy that helps consumers is good.
Trade and tariffs is a debate as old as economics itself. Look at David Ricardo’s work on comparative advantage from hundred of years back
