Great questions! For me, a minimal `y` of 2-3 seconds often suffices for a comfortable bid, depending on complexity. The gap `x - y` ideally should be around 5-7 seconds to manage edge cases and synchronize processes. I haven't found much direct literature, but blockchain consensus papers often touch on similar themes.
