The base is Ethereum Layer 2 provided to users by Coinbase. For those who don't know, Coinbase is a cryptocurrency exchange founded in 2012 by Fred Ersam and Brian Armstrong and listed in 2021. Combining COIN, the name of Coinbase's listed stock, and BASE, the name of the rollup, means ‘Coinbase.’
