EBA designates Circle’s USDC as the EU’s first significant E-money token The European Banking Authority #EBA classified $USDC as a “significant” e-money token under the EU’s Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation on Wednesday, making it the first of 45 notified EMTs to reach that status. From November 12, the EBA will directly supervise USDC’s own funds, reserve assets, liquidity requirements, and recovery and redemption plans, taking over these responsibilities from France’s ACPR. The French regulator will retain oversight of governance, qualifying holdings, fit-and-proper assessments, and conflicts of interest.
