@peth
Knee-jerk reaction to "focus on builders" is that there aren‘t enough users for mini-apps & that builders-only is not a healthy mix.
Counter argument is that
1) builders use things too, and
2) anyone can be a builder now (AI)
I‘d put emphasis on 2).
But issue remains: for miniapp builders, FC‘s TAM is too small.
In today‘s attention hungry world, building in public is marketing:
Posting on social media is a critical part of the go-to-market strategy.
But then people will prefer to keep doing it on Twitter, right?
Moreover, low engagement is the biggest killer of transitions to FC.
Biggest reason for churn.
Seasoned people all already have a following elsewhere.
Why would I stick around, if posting here feels like shouting into the void, while on X I feel seen & have the potential to go mega viral.
What Farcaster can offer better: get initial users (builders generally early adopters), get feedback & reiterate, get support expanding out into the world.
Farcaster as your home base.
As cliche as it is - cast far together.
But to get there:
a) there has to be more engagement to retain people
b) platform needs to be optimized in such a way
Wat do?
Instead of "builders" - frame Farcaster as "The social network for doers". "The social network for people who actually do things."
Think about it - the 21st century split:
- doers vs consumers
- players vs NPCs
No ragebait, no politics, just fellow friendly ambitious nerds* having fun and building shit.
(as defined by Visakan: enthusiastic about ideas & building things. Approach people with warmth & curiosity rather than status-seeking or cynicism. Frame of abundance - they want to help others succeed, they believe there's enough opportunity for everyone)
More concrete suggestions:
- Kill infinite scroll: after 20 posts "can't scroll more until you engage"
- Write a clear definition of culture & make it explicit in onboarding
