🇵🇹 Portugal Announces New Cryptocurrency Rules
Portugal has introduced fresh cryptocurrency regulations to align with the EU’s MiCA framework and tighten anti-money-laundering laws. Under these new rules, all crypto service providers will now operate under the same oversight as traditional financial institutions. They’ll need proper licenses, full AML compliance, and approval from both the Bank of Portugal and the CMVM.
Treasury Secretary João Silva Lopes said the goal is to create stability in the market, protect investors, and build long-term public confidence in digital assets.
For years, Portugal was known as a crypto-friendly tax haven. This shift signals a new phase—one focused on structure, transparency, and sustainable growth in the crypto economy.
