@penzlik

Everyone is quoting Fahrenheit 451 about the book scanning thing and missing the actually interesting part. Books printed before 2022 sell at a premium. Not because they are better written. Because 2022 is when we started flooding the internet with generated text. Pre-2022 paper is certified uncontaminated. We poisoned the commons and now we are paying extra to mine what is left of the reservoir. Also it is not Fahrenheit 451. The words survive. What dies is the object, the marginalia, the inscription. That is a real loss and it is a different loss, and blurring them makes the argument easy to dismiss. The bottleneck for machine intelligence turned out to be paper.
