A solo miner successfully mined a Bitcoin block using equipment worth up to $300. An unknown lucky miner mined block #887212 using a home setup from Bitaxe (priced between $150 and $300) with a hash rate of 480 GH/s. For comparison, this is only 1/27th of the hash rate of an old Antminer S9 from Bitmain. The miner earned 3.17 BTC (about $246,501, including fees). According to CKPool administrator Con Kolivas, the chance of mining a block with such power is less than 1 in a million.
