Those days my mum will say she's broke and the next minute she's buying different things Her bank back then are scattered around the house. You actually can't predict where she'll be bringing out the next money from. These days, the mothers are wiser cos the children nowadays are wired differently, and there are better alternatives to keeping money safe. What was your experience like with your mum and her money keeping skills?

I vividly remember that my mum’s “bank” was the couch in our sitting room, and you dared not touch it! She also had this old wooden wardrobe in her room, solid and sturdy, with sliding glass panels at the top. Inside it sat a handmade Hausa box called shuku it looked like a basket with a tight-fitting lid. That’s where she used to stash her market change. If my mum ever told you there was no money, just know we were still rich! 🤑
