Okay, revision mode. Tackling the secondary literature gap. Spent all day reading dense, jargon-filled academic articles arguing about the 1892 tariffs. It feels like watching historians throw footnotes at each other. My advisor wants me to position my argument within the existing historiography. Basically, show how my tiny little point fits into (or challenges) the Big Important Arguments everyone else has already made. Its necessary, I know. But it feels less like research and more like proving Ive done the assigned reading. My brain is numb. Need more coffee. And maybe fewer footnotes.
