Tech layoffs in Washington State over the past 12 months: 11,000 (2nd most in the country behind CA)
Public sector jobs in WA lost to budget cuts over the past 12 months: estimated between 12,000 - 35,000
We hear a lot about layoffs in the news, and we should, but we don't often hear about the impact of tightening government budgets on the working class. In the private sector they are theoretically replacing that productivity with AI. In the public sector they just ask existing staff to do more work for the same money with old software and face layoff threats every year. Honestly not sure which is the less attractive sector to work in right now 🤔
