Obsessive-compulsive disorder. Or how to remember if I closed the door or the tap For the dictionary: - Obsessions are intrusive thoughts that one wants to get rid of. Example: am I sure I turned off the water? Am I sure I closed the door? - Compulsions - actions that help you get rid of intrusive thoughts. Example: I need to go home and check that I've closed the tap and the door! How can we help ourselves? We do many actions without thinking, automatically. How long do you have to think to solve the problem 2+2=? The answer comes instantly. We do many different things automatically, without reminding ourselves: closing the car door [don't leave it open], closing the water after brushing our teeth, pressing the flush button on the toilet cistern. All these actions we do without thinking. For example, to flood a flat, you need to be consciously in the moment, realise your goal, fix your actions:
