I used to believe helping people with money was a good thing… until life taught me otherwise.
Someone will come to you politely, even respectfully, asking for help. They will explain their situation, make promises, and assure you it’s just for a short time. Out of kindness, you give.
But when it’s time for them to pay back… everything changes.
Suddenly, you become the problem.
I remember one person who owed me ₦20,000. When I reminded him, he looked at me and said, “You’re bigger than 20k, why are you disturbing me?”
That was when it started to sink in… this thing does more harm than good.
Then came the one that really broke me.
A man called me one day, crying. His wife was about to give birth through CS, and he needed ₦200,000 urgently. He was desperate. You could hear the fear in his voice.
I didn’t even have that amount at the time. But I still tried. I managed to give him ₦100,000.
He promised me 3 days.
Just 3 days.
I believed him.
