what if the thing that ruined your first dream was what led you to your real one? Tim Duncan was forced to quit swimming after a tragedy, but it ended up making him a legend in the most unexpected way. at 13, Tim was one of the best young swimmers in the US and was considered an even bigger talent than his older sister, who was already an Olympic swimmer. then in 1989, a category 4 hurricane destroyed the only Olympic-sized pool on St. Croix. the team moved practices to the ocean, but Tim stopped going because he was scared of sharks. a few months later, his mom passed away from cancer. before she died, she made him promise to attend and graduate from college, so he quit swimming. with more free time, he picked up basketball, grew 8 inches in high school and eventually became the 1st overall NBA Draft pick. he never made the olympics as a swimmer, but he won 5 championships as a hooper and became one of the GOATs. he lost the dream he thought was his future, only to find another one he never imagined.
