I ALMOST got hacked by being on someone's fucking podcast!

These scammers are getting super sophisticated. Be careful out there. 

Here's what happened: 
- I got approached on Twitter DM about getting on a Podcast.  
- I checked out their older episodes, looked kinda legit, just new up and coming.
- I agreed.

- We agreed on a time. He even gave me the topic for the podcast a day in advance. All looking legit.

- I got ready when the time came. He shared that we'll be doing the interview on some conferencing platform called VDeck. 

- I didn't think much of it, clicked through. Site looked kinda legit.

The site just looks like some niche podcasting tool. Didn't think much of it.

When I click on "Join meeting" or something on that site, it made me download the tool - similar process to how Zoom would work if you don't have it installed already.

Yeah for sure. In fact as AI deepfake videos and calls get more common, it's going to get even more unsafe. 

We'll probably have to come up with some verification processes / more awareness and education.

Thanks for sharing. Yeah, scams are getting more professional as there is a lot of money to be gained -> scammers invest more on scamming; like in real businesses, there is ROI.
