you're basically describing the orderbook flows of "bear market consolidation"
I think people misunderstand that while the entire market as a whole can be bull-ish or bear-ish; specific industries and commodity flows can have their own bull or bear market cycles
in real recession terms; in a bear market, people buy less and save more
the remaining market participants then pvp in an all-out royal rumble, often fought in microcaps and nanocaps; representative of a % of the total bankroll they're willing to wager and thus fulfilling the zero-sum prophecy
