Hey gang, I wanted to share that I'm officially winding down support for my creator coin $nicolaus given my current situation getting atmo.studio off the ground and the clear extractive signals Zora has displayed again and again. I do not wish to support to a system that clearly does not have my best interests in mind and put myself behind a token tethered to second- and even third-order effects of volatility. I've never been loud about the use of this token but it has been working as a financial layer underneath my day-to-day engagement on Farcaster since September thanks to incredible tools like @noiceapp, @tipn, @kondo, and @cobuild. I actually really enjoyed quietly distributing and exchanging my token for others, and in many ways believe that is a more appropriate behavior for tokens — that they power jobs-to-be-done behind the scenes rather than hogging the spotlight for speculative hype. I have done regular buybacks of $nicolaus since September from USDC I earned in Farcaster creator rewards and other trades, and even used trading fees from the @bloey.eth tokens I launched to buyback and burn $nicolaus to drive value back to it as the source of my onchain influence. I will not be selling any of my supply of $nicolaus because I one day want to figure out a token model that can add an extra layer of engagement and incentive alignment with partners, friends, and supporters of /atmostudio. In fact, I recently consolidated my holdings to my Farcaster wallet to provide full transparency of any movement of those tokens. As Zora continues to drip feed the rest of my ownership I will continue to move tokens to this address. But I will not be buying back or tipping with $nicolaus any longer. I will explore a new setup with the micro-tipping apps I've mentioned to distribute USDC or even ETH instead so that I am adding value instead of noise to other people's wallets. As I mentioned yesterday, I also set up a @beamr pool which I self-funded as an alternative means for supporting the folks I engage with regularly and want to directly support. Thanks to @glanker I have a clear view on who has held and supported me through $nicolaus and will be using that as a means to distribute an Atmo token, if one is created (special shout out to @earth2travis and @anacarolina.eth for their backed belief in me). I am not making any promises of any tokens or value in the future but Atmo Studio was born onchain — I operate as much of my business onchain as possible — and still believe the concept of a single onchain tokenized representation of my work & identity is an exciting challenge and opportunity for the future of both businesses and creators alike. I want to grow this business onchain and remain committed to increasing the design capacity for founders and teams creating more equitable and compassionate systems onchain. Individuals like @macedo.eth ($macedo), @catra.eth ($catra), and @anacarolina.eth ($spectral) inspire me with their exploration of token-based support and belief models to fuel their work and I want to believe that creators can use a token (un)like any other existing form of monetization to support themselves, build a platform, and thrive. The Zora creator coin model simply ain't it. Creators deserve better.
