Visa Enters Tempo Ecosystem; Testnet Live
Tempo is a payment-focused Layer 1 blockchain developed by Stripe and Paradigm. Its public testnet launched in December, with mainnet expected in 2026.
Designed specifically for payments rather than general-purpose smart contracts, Tempo aims to reduce the cost and complexity of stablecoin transactions. It is fully EVM-compatible and introduces TIP-20, a native token standard optimized for stablecoins and payment tokens.
Tempo has no native token. Gas fees can be paid directly in TIP-20 stablecoins via a fixed-fee model, targeting sub-$0.001 transfers, with fees going to validators.
Its native Tempo Transactions support batch payments, fee abstraction, scheduled payments, and Passkey-based authentication, enabling use cases like payroll and subscriptions with ~0.6s finality.
Tempo raised $500M Series A at a ~$5B valuation in Oct 2025. Partners now include Visa, Mastercard, Deutsche Bank, UBS and others. Klarna has launched KlarnaUSD on Tempo.
