Thinking about doing Yelp for Venture Investors to help founders find their perfect VC. Do you use anything like this? Does this sound useful to you?

not sure what happened to vcguide.co, but that’s the only public one i’ve seen with recent traction yc has one too but you need to be a yc founder to get access

So much of your experience with any given investor is who your partner is If you accept that premise, you’ll end up doing hot or not capital formation edition

I think most vcs are actually not going to be that different unless it's a small vc Too much money too little time It's like 75% the name brand recognition and 25% several one on one calls The rest is all nbd tbqh

There have been a few of these over the years Unfortunately I think most have turned into venting or can have highly variable experiences with VCs Best thing is a reference check from an existing founder in the portfolio

IMO the best angle here is likely something that quickly gives you many investors that might be interested in your round rather than finding your perfect investor. There is usually a long-tail of investors that might be interested that founders never speak to unless they spend a huge amount of time networking/researching. When you’re raising a round you likely want to talk to a lot of relevant investors (also those that are not your “perfect” investor) and then decide which one to go with once you have a lot of demand.

Founders talk a lot privately, but almost nothing is structured or searchable. A trusted, transparent layer like this could save people months of misaligned conversations.

I built something like this for our portfolio back when I was a VC. It included VCs well liked by other portfolio companies, value prop, and stage. Also included a few “do not engage” VCs 👀 Founders found it helpful bc they could easily create a list of VCs that they can get intros to from other founders (better signal than from the VC)

I used to use a lot of networking tools like Swarm, Vestbee and even worked in one of them (techtree). But are you gonna make it compatible with other social platforms( ask them to upload connections), or completely a new user database and onboard them from scratch? Because it might affect your customer turnover.

Yeah, that actually sounds super helpful. It’s hard to know which VCs are truly supportive and which ones just talk. Something like this could really help founders find the right match.

That sounds incredibly useful. While platforms like Signal and NFX's database exist, they're fragmented. A centralized, transparent platform with verified founder reviews could solve a major pain point in the fundraising process. It would significantly improve founder-VC matching and add a much-needed layer of accou...
