As neighboring nations accelerated into the digital age—adopting AI, fintech, and smart infrastructure—Syria remained digitally stranded, crippled by years of conflict, systemic collapse, and the large-scale departure of its educated and skilled population. Beyond the physical devastation, sweeping international sanctions isolated the country from vital digital platforms, financial systems, and essential tools like cloud services or navigation apps. Under Assad’s regime, tight control over the internet, censorship, and limited digital rights have stifled both expression and innovation. The divide is staggering: less than 40% of Syrians are connected to the internet, and over 90% are trapped below the poverty line. What should be a gateway to opportunity has instead become yet another barrier. @mazmhussain
