Restaking protocols like EigenLayer unlock new security markets by rehypothecating staked ETH. While they expand capital efficiency, sustainability depends on whether demand for additional security is real and recurring. Risks include correlated slashing events and systemic contagion. Restaking amplifies yield but also systemic exposure. Long-term sustainability requires proving that buyers of security derive lasting benefits, not just speculative experimentation. Otherwise, restaking risks being another leverage layer with fragile foundations.
