Something interesting is happening in creator-owned comics right now. Compared to previous years, sales are down across the board, yet the general quality appears to be higher than I've ever seen. Maybe it's because anyone who got into the game to make a quick, easy buck is finding out it's no longer worth the time, leaving only the passionate creators left to carry on doing what they do. It stands to reason that lean years will force teams to innovate and improve in an attempt to fight for that ever harder to get dollar. Hard times create great men.
