ŌSAKA CASTLE Builtin the 16th century, this fortress was the main strong hold of the Toyotomi clan, which maintained its resistance against the armies of Tokugawa Ieyasu. The capture of the castle in 1615 led to the unification of Japan under theTokugawa shogunate.
