The colored squares at the bottom of toothpaste tubes are production-related "eye marks" or "color marks" used by manufacturing equipment to identify where to cut and fold the packaging. They do not indicate the composition of the toothpaste. The color of the mark is chosen because it is easily detectable by the machinery sensors. The widespread claim that these marks signify the toothpaste's composition (e.g., all-natural, natural plus chemical, all-chemical) is a persistent myth and not factual. Toothpaste ingredients are always listed on the packaging for consumers to review.
