A judge banned the use of Elon Musk's social-media platform X in Brazil, according to media reports, the culmination of a months-long battle over allegations the platform was used to spread disinformation and Musk's free-speech retort. X had ignored an order to remove some accounts. So, on Friday, Brazilian Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes ruled that internet service providers must block X in the country of about 215 million people, according to the New York Times. Local media reported that anyone who uses a VPN to circumvent the ban could be subject to a fine amounting to 50,000 reais ($8,900), according to the BBC.

Matthew Isaac Knoot, a Nashville resident, faces charges for helping fund North Korea's weapons program, which involves weapons of mass destruction. The Department of Justice (DOJ) alleges that Knoot helped North Korean nationals pose as US citizens to get remote jobs in US and UK tech companies, and launder the payments they received. These payments were reportedly funneled into accounts linked to North Korean and Chinese entities. Knoot allegedly set up remote desktop applications allowing North Korean workers to operate from China while appearing to be based in Nashville. For his role, Knoot received a monthly payment from a foreign facilitator named Yang Di. The DOJ highlighted that the fraudulent schemes by North Korean IT workers involved fake email, social media accounts, payment platforms, job sites, and proxy computers. These operations often involved both knowing and unknowing third parties in the US and other countries.

The Bitcoin 2024 conference opens later today, and a list of stellar speakers are likely to have Bitcoin bulls salivating in anticipation. Headline speaker Donald Trump is not up until Saturday, the final day of the conference. Other speakers include Senator Cynthia Lummis, who is expected to outline how she is preparing a bill, which will require the Federal Reserve to hold Bitcoin as part of the US strategic reserve. Perhaps with this conference in mind, Samson Mow, CEO of Jan3, tweeted that in his view “super bullish Bitcoin news coming out over the next few days.” He added: “Market should be a bit more green.”
