One day a week, I spend cleaning out my dad's house to get it ready to be sold. I have 6 months to go through the house I grew up in, 25 years of history in dusty and densely cluttered rooms, and Im in month 3. Some of it's trash, a lot of it is "useful objects" like camping gear, tools, art supplies, and a great collection of neat and random oddities. I always find things from my childhood, little momentos that he kept somewhere. Like this book of poems that I wrote in the 5th grade (11 yo) from which I will share with you today. It's a small glimpse into a deeply compassionate girl pondering existence:

My dad has had these speakers for as long as I can remember and he told me tens of times about how beautiful they will be if someone just sands them and puts a fresh coat on top. So yeah, I took them home, I sanded, I used the unopened can of Fiddes & Sons wax that I found that he probably bought for this exact project. And I did his project. Cleaning my dad's house often involves the question: "do I want to inherit this project?" The truth is that I love his projects. I love doing them. It feels like being with him, even though part of his being was that he didn't ever get around to these projects. Here's the process of one:
My dad left me this really beautiful guitar custom made by some guy he knew. The wood is so beautiful. The neck is a curly maple. Unbranded obviously because its literally just wood with pickups and strings. Anything metal is brass. It's just so chef's kiss
