Cross-chain bridges remain one of crypto’s biggest attack vectors. Their complexity and reliance on multi-sig custodians make them vulnerable. New approaches—zk proofs, light clients, optimistic bridges—promise stronger security. However, perfect security may be impossible. Bridges may never be risk-free, but with cryptographic innovations and robust decentralization, they can become secure enough for mainstream use. The challenge is balancing efficiency with safety while minimizing systemic risks.
